We are looking for Apprentices to join our Community Action Teams. The successful candidate will work well as part of a team and will be responsible for carrying out works around their designated Parish. They will work alongside experienced staff in grounds and cleansing and will be able to show the candidate correct working practices.

Induction

Successful recruits will receive the initial induction as any other member of the workforce.  During this time their welfare and learning will be the responsibility of an experienced Contract Manager within the business.

After the initial period of shadowing a number of Team, the Apprentice recruit will be assigned to a specific team and gain accountability of the specific route. It is important the individual gains an insight into the complexities of all roles on the contract.

The Role

Horticulture or landscape operatives can be employed to work in public parks and gardens, green spaces and historic gardens, private gardens and estates or in production nurseries and retail outlets. Many businesses will be specialised in their activities, such as grounds maintenance (soft-landscape) or landscape construction (hard-landscape). Soft- landscaping includes the establishment and maintenance of plants and cultivated areas. Hard-landscaping includes establishment of hard surfaces and structures in addition to the establishment of plants in cultivated areas.

Further Progression

At the end of the training scheme trainees will need to pass the required qualification to secure a permanent position.

To read, understand and work to the company’s Health & Safety Policy and use correct PPE:  high-viz vest, ear defenders, gloves etc. To ensure that any plant/equipment is used safely and only after suitable training has been given. To understand and work to risk assessments and COSHH assessments and to report accidents and near misses. To report any potential health & safety issues to your manger/supervisor or foreman.

  • Work Attendance:

To be reliable in your attendance at work and to follow company rules and procedures if absent from work for any reason.

  • Company Systems:

To be efficient and organised, working to company systems.

Learning

To make good use of the opportunity to discuss your work and review your job specification and to take an active part in planning changes and improvements as appropriate.
