Northaw Riding School offers a variety of horse riding lessons, as well as horse hacking, children’s pony days, birthday parties, event days and lots more. Located in the beautiful rolling countryside setting of Northaw Manor Equestrian Centre, we are easily accessible from North London, Hertfordshire, Essex and the surrounding areas.

Vacancy description

We are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and dedicated apprentice who is looking to further their knowledge and skills within equine care. The successful candidate will work alongside our current team handling and caring for our riding school and livery horses.

Tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Working alongside our other staff
  • Giving feeds, turning out horses, mucking out & associated tasks
  • Cleaning waters, filling & hanging haynets
  • Sweeping, muck bin tidying
  • Field management duties
  • Clipping, trimming, & tack cleaning
  • Minor first aid tasks and grooming
  • Assisting with lessons
  • Exercising various horses, if applicant has suitable riding skills
  • Seasonal site maintenance

The working week includes 2 hours of riding training and 2 hours of stable management training.

Desired skills

  • Some equine experience is desired but not essential
  • Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills are essential

  • Reliable

Desired qualifications

  • GCSEs or equivalents, in maths and English are desired but not essential
  • Applicants must not already hold a level 2 or 3 horse care qualification in order to be eligible for this apprenticeship

Future prospects

  • Future employment and training will be available for the right candidate to complete a level 3 advanced apprenticeship
