The South East in Bloom campaign runs all year round, in which communities can get involved for as long as they wish. Participants begin in South & South in East in Bloom mostly through participating in local community events and projects and activities that involve local people.
These activities may include group litter picks, bulb planting days and projects with local schools. In addition, local competitions (i.e. best front garden, best shop/pub frontage etc.) might be used to motivate people to participate.
All of the events and activities will then form an integral part of a community’s entry into South & South in East in Bloom in the Britain in Bloom mainstream categories. Communities enter “in Bloom” in the appropriate category based on their confirmed/verifiable electoral roll.
The South & South East in Bloom Awards 2018 were held at the Amex Stadium, Falmer on the 14th September sponsored and supported by Your London Airport Gatwick.
The awards saw close to 400 guests from across the six counties which make up the region of Britain in Bloom. Awards were presented by Joe Talbot of BBC Surrey & Sussex and announced by Peter Holman, Chairman and Jim Buttress VMH, Patron.
One of our Employers, Coblands Landscapes (Located near Tunbridge Wells), who are responsible for the planting and ground maintenance at Kings Hill, were awarded 2 golds and also Best in Kent.
In addition to this, our apprentice Connor Edwards was awarded Young Gardener of the Year 2018 for his sensory garden at Genesis Care in Kings Hill. The judges said that the high standard of the soft and hard landscaping in the business park made it a ’very desirable area for businesses to locate’. Connor collected his award in Kings Hill on the 2nd October and join in a celebratory meal.
A huge well done to Connor and all at Coblands Garden Landscapes!
