87 Year old June Brewer proves age is just a number
Eighty Seven year old June wasn’t about to let age stop her and has been using her time in lockdown to study for a Level 2 Qualification in the Principles of Customer Service. Born in Sheffield and spending the last fifty years in Kent June’s first job was as a short-hand typist in a teaching hospital in Sheffield. This led her on to becoming a secretary to an ophthalmologist in a private practice and assisting with fitting some of the first contact lenses in the country. She tells KEITS ‘ I still remember the absolute joy on patients’ faces who, after a lifetime of wearing ‘pebble glasses’, could see without any glasses at all. I think that’s when I first became aware of ‘customer satisfaction’.
Until very recently retirement hadn’t been a quiet one, what with being Chairman of The Friends of Marlowe Theatre for twenty five years of fundraising, writing and narrating productions and organising outings for the Silver Phoenix Travel Club. Covid-19 hit and unfortunately put a stop to all these activities, but they hope to resume as soon as the current situation improves.
Although she sadly lost her husband three years ago whom she was happily married to for forty four years and arthritis means that June is not as physically active as she would like to be she feels blessed by her family. She has two daughters, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren with another one on the way in December keep and they all keep her quite busy. But June still felt she wanted to do something to keep the old grey matter in working order, so she decided to do a KEITS short course. She is thoroughly enjoying it and finding it interesting and challenging and has now ignited a desired to want to aim for a Level 2 in Customer Service.
June, you are an inspiration to us all!
Good luck with your studies and hopefully you will be back out fundraising and travelling again soon.
